What are your New Years Resolutions for 2010???
This is a time of year where we all look back on the previous year & do some evaluation. What did we do right? What did we do wrong? What do we wish we did – but didn’t? Then we look ahead to the coming year – and we make commitments/resolutions/whatever you want to call them. What do we need to do differently? What do we need to do more of? Less of? I am doing a whole lot of this regarding my personal life, my family, as well as for Eagle Pointe Church.
Now for those who would say that you shouldn’t plan ahead & set goals in the Christian life – you should just let God lead each day as it comes – I would say, “Oh really?” God says we should plan & do some goal setting… Proverbs 13:16, “A wise man thinks ahead; a fool doesn’t and even brags about it!“; Proverbs 15:22, “Plans go wrong with too few counselors; many counselors bring success.”; Proverbs 21:5, “The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.”
Clearly, God wants us to plan & set goals & then work towards them. I’ve heard it said, “If you fail to plan – you plan to fail!”
But let me throw in this disclaimer – James 4:15-16, “What you ought to say is, ‘If the Lord wants us to, we shall live and do this or that.’ Otherwise you will be bragging about your own plans, and such self-confidence never pleases God.” The Key in the Christian life is to bathe your plans in prayer!!! Ask God if your plans match up with His perfect plan. Pray and ask God to reveal His plan for your life in 2010!
While there’s no doubt many of us, including myself need to lose some weight, spend more time with God, more time with our spouse & kids, more time reading the Bible, be in church & Life Group regularly, etc. There are, no doubt, much bigger things that God has planned for your life in 2010. In addition making the usual set of New Years Resolutions, spend some time praying this week, asking God – “What are Your plans & goals for my life this coming year?”
Pray & develop that plan – pray big time for God’s guidance & help – then throw caution to the wind & work that plan with reckless abandon! I’m praying for God to do huge things in your life in 2010!!!
To that end, I would love to hear… “What are your New Years Resolutions for 2010???” I would like to get 2 avenues of discussion opened up on this topic – so please comment here on this blog with your resolutions – as well as comment on our Eagle Pointe Facebook page.
PS. When you blow it with some of your resolutions – and you will – don’t get discouraged & wallow in self pity & shame. God wants to see you succeed & live victoriously! Get up, brush yourself off, pray for God’s help, & get back at it! “If you fail to plan – you plan to fail!”
